How can I help?

I am a trouble-shooter who fixes problems, improves processes and helps individuals and teams work together in the most effective way. I help people and businesses to overcome blocks they are facing when it comes to growth.

This might be acting as a sounding board for a nascent idea, helping improve a process that your company has outgrown or putting in place clear KPIs.

My primary values are ‘caring’ and ‘questioning’ – this will be the basis for all our conversations. By discussing the issues that you are facing, I aim to uncover the areas that are holding you and your business back and come up with solutions to help you move forward. I create solutions WITH rather than FOR a company by understanding the unique circumstances being faced. I combine my accounting background and analytical skills with curiosity about the true root causes of issues, to remove or reduce obstacles faced.

Process Improvements

Has your company outgrown some of the processes it uses? Are you tracking projects in numerous spreadsheets? Is data having to be entered in numerous places? Is communication about the status of a project reliant on individuals?

So often employees get frustrated by knowing that they are being ineffective but they don’t have the time to find a better solution. There are so many wonderful tools out there to improve processes but you need the one that actually suits your company and employees. I love getting to the heart of the issue and working out how processes can be performed in a more efficient and effective way.

Full cost analysis

Do you know which parts of your company make the most money and which are losing you money? What products should your sales & marketing teams be pushing and what should they be more wary of. Often looking at revenue or even gross margin gives a distorted picture as to what is actually happening and you need to try and allocate the variable costs to get a better picture.

For example, I worked with an online garden centre company whose revenue kept growing but net profit was actually decreasing and they couldn’t work out why. In turned out that one of the main culprits were flat packed greenhouses – although these had a good margin at a gross level, when you took into account the cost of shipping (vs the flat rate shipping recovered) and the cost of warehouse storage suddenly a very different picture was on show.

Are you and your team so in the weeds of the day to day operations that you can’t see the wood from the trees? I love to get to the heart of knotty problems and bring my experience from a range of sectors to look at issues in a different way to come to a solution that will actually work.

Identifying the strengths and preferred ways of working of teams and individuals

A team who are all using their strengths operates far more successfully than one where people are doing those things that just don’t come easily/ they don’t enjoy. But far too rarely is the time taken to really understand the strengths of individuals and how to maximise these within the team. Additionally when people are working in the way that suits them better the results are turbo charged. I work with individuals and teams to help them understand their own strengths and preferred ways of working and how these can come together to create the best team possible.
